Summer 2010 weekend trip through the White Mountains

I have been planning to do a weekend trip on the motorcycle this summer. I originally thought of going to Canada, specifically Quebec City, however after looking into it more, I found it to be too far for an enjoyable weekend trip.
I then thought that I would make a trip to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. I have been wondering how to do this best and make a weekend out of it.
I was listening to This American Life where there was an entire episode dedicated to the “House on Loon Lake,” in Freedom, NH. This was a fascinating story about the Mason family and it made me want to go to Freedom and see it all for myself. I mapped it out and wasn’t really liking how that trip would look. Also, the mason houses have been burned down.
After ruling out Freedom, NH I wanted to stay in the mountains longer.

Here is a preliminary route for my weekend trip:

If any of you are experienced in riding in the White Mountains area, please offer suggestions about where I should go or avoid.

With some additional feedback I have added route 118 to the map:

And the longest and most thorough alternative:

UPDATE June 10, 2010:
Here is a single path version of the last map plus a link to the GPX file which can be loaded onto your GPS device. (You may need to do a “save link as” if your browser doesn’t automatically download the .gpx file.)

Have Fun and be safe.
