You should really thank your local motorcycle commuter (and any non-motorized commuter really). As a motorcycle commuter I:
- Save the planet, by emitting less CO2 through increased fuel economy (mpg)
- Reduce traffic, by taking up less space in the road and being able to cut through some traffic helping to alleviate slowness (which also helps others emit less CO2)*
- won’t injure you when you hit me with your car
- will not have high long-term health care costs (unlike you sedentary care drivers) because I will either be very happy and sane (since motorcycles provide some of the best therapy) or dead, see item #3
It appears that motorcycle commuters (as well as non-motorized commuters) provide a win-win for themselves and those around them.
So, reach out a hand to your local motorcycle commuter and thank them for their contribution to society.
*A recent study in the EU cited that if 10% of the cars drivers were to commute on motorcycles traffic would be reduced by a staggering 40%.
